Trunk interviewed Slash for about 30 minutes. You can listen to the interview below and I’ve summarized what Slash discussed (see summary below the video).

  • Slash still goes to the Rainbow from time to time. Whenever Guns N’Roses plays the forum they normally get pizza’s delivered to the venue from the Rainbow.

  • Slash said he’s been sober for 12 years and isn’t struggling with it.
  • Slash revealed that originally Guns N’ Roses weren’t planning a huge tour when him and Axl got back together again. Originally the plan was to do Coachella and a few warm up shows and that was it. Slash also revealed that Guns N’ Roses had been asked to do Coachella for several years prior to 2016. Those early gigs went so well that they did a whole tour across the United States and everything snowballed from there.

  • Slash said that ‘Living the Dream’ record is a natural progression from ‘World on Fire’, which came out in 2014.
  • Slash said the title of the album ‘Living The Dream’ doesn’t have anything to do with his personal life playing stadiums with Guns N’ Roses. He said it more has to do with the political climate right now.
  • Slash said he always keeps in touch with the guys from the Conspirators and they even attended some Guns N’ Roses shows.
  • Slash said he feels like he got the Guns N’ Roses songs out of his system. 90% of the setlist on his upcoming tour will focus on Conspirators songs with maybe a few Velvet Revolver, Snakepit and Guns N’ Roses songs.
  • Slither cover came up early on during Guns N’ Roses rehearsal but it wasn’t played live until this past leg in Europe. He said he may or may not play Slither with the Conspirators.
  • Slash said he doesn’t pay attention to how big the tour with Guns N’ Roses has been.
  • When Guns N’ Roses reunited he said the first offers were to do stadium type gigs. Slash said he was excited about the enthusiasm and seeing the insane crowds. It was better received this time around than during the Use Your Illusion Tour.
  • Reconnecting with Axl Rose was huge Slash said. He said the most surreal moment was soundcheck at the Troubadour. He said being in that environment and looking over and seeing Axl and Duff was surreal. He said the tour with Guns N’ Roses felt fresh and new and felt very different during the Use Your Illusion Tour.

He said it was fun and cathartic. Slash said the Shadow of Your Love recording was the first song they first did with Mike Clink. Slash never thought that version of Shadow of Your Love would come out.
  • Slash said Shadow of Your Love never made Appetite for Destruction because the band evolved out of since they were playing it starting in 1985.
