The upcoming documentary The Rainbow looks at the history behind hte iconic  Sunset Strip’s Rainbow Bar and Grill and the famous Whisky a Go Go venues with interviews from legends such as Ozzy OsbourneGuns N’ Roses guitarist Slash and late Motorhead figurehead Lemmy Kilmister. Available on demand Oct. 29, rock and roll fans can watch a trailer and pre-order the movie now.

Directed by Zak Knutson, the co-production from Gravitas Ventures and Bow and Arrow Entertainment also highlights interviews with rockers Lita Ford and KISS bassist and co-frontman Gene Simmons. Read the forthcoming film’s synopsis down toward the bottom of this post.

The Rainbow recounts legendary tales of the Hollywood nightclubs founded by Mario Maglieri (1924-2017), often referred to as the “King of the Sunset Strip.” As noted in a press release, the movie “gives viewers an inside look at the Maglieri family who has owned the venue and dedicated their lives to preserving rock history.”

Maglieri began running the Whisky in 1966, and in 1972, he, along with associates Elmer Valentine and Lou Adler, purchased the Villa Nova restaurant and renamed it the Rainbow in tribute to Judy Garland, whose husband had previously owned the establishment.

“Telling the story of the Rainbow Bar and Grill, the Whisky a Go Go and the Maglieri family in this film has been a great honor and one that truly represents the history of rock and roll in America,” Bow and Arrow Entertainment producer Matthew Perniciaro offered. He produced the film alongside executive producers Todd Singerman, Erik Kritzer of Link Entertainment, Mikeal Maglieri and Mike Maglieri Jr.
