Megadeth Play Their First Show With Dave Mustaine Following His Cancer Diagnosis Last Year
Megadeth opened for Five Finger Death Punch tonight at Hartwell Arena in Helsinki, Finland. The band tore threw an 11-song set that included staples like “Hangar 18”, “Peace Sells” and “Symphony of Destruction.” This marked the band’s first live show since October 27, 2018 when they played a gig in Indonesia.
Mustaine opened up about his cancer diagnosis last June saying
“I’ve been diagnosed with throat cancer,” “It’s clearly something to be respected and faced head on — but I’ve faced obstacles before. I’m working closely with my doctors, and we’ve mapped out a treatment plan which they feel has a 90 percent success rate. Treatment has already begun.”
The band was forced to cancer all 2019 commitments for touring including a headlining slot on their first Megacruise. The band Lamb of God took their place. Megadeth is currently working on a new album that would serve as a follow up to 2016’s Dystopia.
Mustaine recently revealed how one song was inspired by the Kiss track “Beth” with bassist David Ellefson on vocals saying
, “I said, ‘Yeah, we should write a song like ‘Beth,’ where it’s a ballad and it’s just you singing it. I think you should write a song about what it’s like being in Megadeth with me, because I read all your lyrics, and I know that your lyrics are aimed at me. You’re upset. So why don’t you write about it?’ … It was actually really cool to see Ellefson writing something and hear him singing.”
Megadeth stays on the road for this month and concludes its trek on February 20th when they wrap things up in Budapest, Hungary. Check out the setlist from the show today in Finland.
It’s great to see Dave Mustaine back out there with his band and here’s hoping we’ll see many years more of him on the road.
